Cheers, Mr. Campbell!
Mr. Tye Campbell, Director of Strategic Information and Innovation, has decided to move on from Gilman after 11 years. He is taking a sabbatical year because, due to COVID-19, he is drained, reflecting, “it’s been a few years where I’ve just been pretty burnt out.” Following his sabbatical year, where he plans to “recharge, reflect, and refocus,” Mr. Campbell is eager to move into school leadership and hopes to one day be a head of school.
Before Gilman, Mr. Campbell worked a corporate job in New York City. He commented, “I was in corporate for a little over a decade, and I was enjoying my work, but I wasn’t really feeling fulfilled.” Therefore, Mr. Campbell decided to leave his corporate job and join Gilman because, as he put it, “there is no greater job or career than education and teaching kids.”
He truly believes that as an educator and an innovator, “we have to keep growing as educators so that we can do a better job teaching kids and preparing them for a future.” With his career at Gilman, Mr Campbell found purpose. Because of his time at Gilman and learning about how fulfilling a job in education is, Mr. Campbell wants to continue a life of helping the youth develop into great citizens in the future.
While Mr. Campbell has aspirations for his future and is ready to move on, he enjoyed his time at Gilman and is sad to leave. Mr. Campbell especially loved his time with his advisory. He said, “For me, the highlights easily come to my advisory. I’ve had an incredible group of guys, and I am really psyched about the five seniors that will be graduating this year.” Mr. Campbell has also appreciated his fellow faculty members. He says, “My colleagues here have always been great. I absolutely love my [Tech and Library] team that I have been able to build from the time I have been here.”
Mr. Campbell is happy to move forward in his life, but will never forget the great times he has had with the Gilman Community, nor will we forget him.
