Mr. Tye Campbell, Director of Strategic Information and Innovation, has decided to move on from Gilman after 11 years. He is taking a sabbatical year because, due to COVID-19, he is drained, reflecting, “it’s been a few years where I’ve just been pretty burnt out.”

Señor Duncan’s Adventures Abroad
We all know Agent Smith from The Matrix, correct? Or we are familiar with the stereotypical FBI agent, in the American suit and in constant surveillance mode. Map this idea of a person onto Mr. Joe Duncan, a longtime Spanish teacher and running coach at Gilman, when he would chaperone trips abroad, starting in 1982.

On July 19, 2000, Tammy Temple began her thriving career at Gilman, one that would play an integral role in all Lower School affairs. Over the next twenty-five years, she assumed the post of administrative assistant to the head of the Lower School.

After its renovation last year, the librarians have revived the Edward R. Fenimore Jr. Memorial Library into a domain of joy and fun.

It will be August 27th and for the first time in 28 years, Mr. Jacobs will not be on the third floor of Carey Hall. Mr. Jacobs is retiring! When asked what he will miss most from his tenure at Gilman, he stated, “Well, to be honest, I think it’s the kids, the students, and my colleagues as well.”

The Disappearance of Fruit Snacks
The snack cart in the Lumen Center helps students get a grab-and-go snack between the 2nd and 3rd periods from 11:00-11:20 am. The cart serves apples, oranges, and a couple of different granola bars that vary in kind, but nothing too exciting. While the healthier snacks are good, the favorite was always the fruit snacks served primarily on Fridays.

FOCUS Conclave Elects 10th Consecutive American Leader
GILMAN—Throngs of Gilman students could be heard cheering throughout Carey Hall as white smoke billowed out of Centennial Hall’s chimney last Tuesday morning. Students had been waiting for days as the highest-ranking members of Gilman’s Christian Bible study, FOCUS, convened in their annual conclave to elect their next leader.

DOGE Comes to Gilman
In November of 2024, Mr. Smyth announced the creation of the Department of Gilman Efficiency, or DOGE. This new department, headed by Señor Leon, is tasked with cutting down on waste and making Gilman a fiscally responsible institution. They immediately began reallocating Gilman’s budget.

Does Gilman fulfill their obligation of providing the necessary education to future citizens in a republic?
The burden of being a citizen in a republic requires the ability to self-govern. If a school succeeds in this duty, its students will gain the ability to cultivate discussion, engage in meaningful discourse, and ultimately cause change. The pressing question is: does Gilman supply the necessary education to fulfill this obligation?

Survey Conducted at 2025 Gilman Graduation Concludes it Was the Longest Graduation Ever
According to a recent survey of attendees of Gilman’s 2025 Graduation, the 128th Founders Day was the longest in the school’s history.
