Salutations, Ms. Kidd!

Please join The News in welcoming this year’s Foreman Fellow, Ms. Julia Kidd. A visual artist and educator from Houston, Texas, Ms. Kidd brings a wealth of experience to Gilman. Holding a Master of Fine Arts in Painting degree from the University of Houston and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History degree from Rice University, where she graduated cum laude with distinction in research and creative works, Ms. Kidd’s artwork has been featured in numerous exhibitions across Texas. Furthermore, she has taught a wide range of studio and art history classes and has served as director, curator, and education roles at Thornwood Gallery in Houston, the Blaffer Art Museum, and the Moody Center for Arts. Coming from Houston, Ms. Kidd is excited to explore all Baltimore offers, “from the scenery to the museums to the seaside cuisine.”

As the Foreman Fellow, Ms. Kidd will observe both the middle school’s Mr. Dave Anderson and the upper school’s Mr. Karl Connolly teach, as well as teach her own 7th-grade Art and 9th-grade Drawing and Painting classes. Although serving primarily in a studio art capacity at Gilman, Ms. Kidd mentioned, “I am always happy to answer questions about Art History, Art Curation, Museum Studies, Commercial Galleries, and Professional Art Practices.” Above all, Ms. Kidd looks forward to making a mess of the art rooms, saying, “I have always believed that creativity thrives off of color mixed with a little bit of chaos; we’ll be sure to clean up really well afterwards.”

Please join The News in welcoming Ms. Kidd to the middle and upper school communities this fall, and be sure to send your art questions her way!
