Letter from Incoming Editor-in-Chief

The 2024-2025 News year was a great success in many ways, but also left many areas to improve on. As Editor-in-Chief next year, I have been thinking tirelessly about ways to improve the paper and make the 2025-2026 year the greatest News era in school history.

First and foremost, I hope to dramatically cut down the time between issues. This year, publications were bi-monthly at best. In fact, we only released four editions the entire year. While they were packed with quality articles, I do not believe a newspaper can go months without publishing. Thus, I am aiming to cut down the period between issues next year to, at most, one month. Optimistically, issues will be released and placed into student mailboxes, another tradition I am bringing back, every four weeks next school year. Hopefully, with this change in policy, Mr. Gouline will stop referring to our publication as “The Gilman Old.”

Next year, I also look to foster more underclassmen engagement. Although our junior-dominated staff is productive, we are looking for freshmen and sophomore writers to help take over when we graduate next Spring. Furthermore, if we are going to publish an issue each and every month, we are going to need more writers to increase article production. I hope to use my strong ties to the 9th and 10th grade classes to recruit a new legion of writers.

Other changes I look to incorporate will be finding businesses and restaurants to post advertisements, giving clubs a larger say in their club-spotlight, and continuing to build the social media page. Students who have comments or complaints about events in the community will be able to write a “Letter to the Editor” voicing their opinions. Andrew Goodale ‘26 is also looking forward to bringing back Mr. Jake Scott’s Path to Follow Podcast, which will be called the Roland Ave. Ramble and be run under The News’ jurisdiction. I will continue this year’s tradition of the mailing service, and I look to live up to the legacy of my predecessors and mentors: Eric Chen ‘25, Miles Guth ‘25, and Zach Minkin ‘24.

I look forward to leading TheNews through its most successful year in its history next year, with more frequent issues packed with fascinating and juicy articles. With the community’s support, TheNews can ensure an age of bountiful prosperity ahead.
