Letter From The Editor
This summer, I’ve pondered ways to make the 2025-2026 school year the greatest Gilman News year in school history. I imagine it as the beginning of a News empire that will enjoy a long reign of spreading accurate, joyful news to all. To ensure we meet these lofty goals and expectations, I think it is important that I, along with the News staff, put in extra effort to go above and beyond.
First, we need to make sure that the News can establish a commanding presence on campus. For this to be done, we will launch a figurative attack from land, air, and sea. One of the main setbacks of last year’s News was the copious amount of time between each issue, so this will be a main area of focus. We will be publishing issues monthly. If this goal is not met, I will allow my editors to throw eggs at me for each deadline missed.
Secondly, Social Media Editor Andrew Goodale ‘26 will continue to not only post on the Instagram page but will also find ways to grow our online presence. The News plans to expand to other social media networks, post interactive and engaging content, and stay consistent with posting.
Third, this year, the News will formally launch its own podcast, the Roland Ave Ramble, a successor to Mr. Jake Scott’s Path to Follow podcast. The podcast, hosted by Andrew and Leo Eiswert ‘26, will interview various student and faculty members around the school, highlighting achievements and bringing joy to all.
Aside from establishing our presence on campus, I want to make sure that the News is thoroughly enjoyed by a wide variety of readers. Thus, I will bring back the tradition of putting issues in students' mailboxes, while continuing the mailing service to alumni. To ensure greater readership, I will offer incentives and prizes for students who are diligent in reading the paper. In order to keep things interesting, I will also be expanding divisions such as the Snooze and student columns. As the year progresses, we may offer students the ability to write ‘one-time pieces’ featured in the News, whether that be a response to a posed question or a comment on recent events.
Aside from these goals, I hope to increase the size of the News staff by bringing in underclassmen writers, especially those who are interested in focusing on a particular topic, such as sports writing, critiquing restaurants, or advertisements.
In order to make our intentions clear, the News is releasing this Day 0 Issue to let all of our dissenters know that we are not to be taken for granted. This year, the News aspires to be an organization that is both respected and adored. As we look forward to the months ahead, the staff and I are confident that with the community’s support, a newspaper of bountiful prosperity can be achieved, providing information and fascination for all.
