Cameron’s Column
Walton Staley ‘26 is the subject of The News’ second Cameron Column.
John: “Let’s start with something easy, what do you think about the geopolitical and economic state of the world?”
Walton: “Listen, I’m not going to sit here and try to pretend that I have the world figured out. What I do know is that the low taper fade meme has taken a massive nose dive in popularity, but there are plenty of fantastic players out there to fill the void.”
John: “Do you think it’s important to shower every day?”
Walton: “No. I actually like to shower once a month. Instead, I utilize 4 AM cold plunges with Marko Mihajlovic ‘25 and Lukas Kelley ‘26 to stay clean. Those are something special.”
John: “Do you have any hidden talents?”
Walton: “I think there [are] only a few people at this school that have seen me in a limbo competition, but let me tell you, if you see me go under that limbo bar, you aren’t looking anywhere else. I think that may be the thing in this world that I do best.”
John: “What emotions do you feel when the bell rings after 3rd period?”
Walton: “I think the correct word would be jubilation. Especially before a weekend or long weekend. It’s truly something special that you have to experience for yourself. It’s a top two best feeling.”
John: “What emotions do you not feel when the bell rings after 3rd period?”
Walton: “Probably satisfaction. It’s really hard to quench my thirst in the classroom for learning in that short amount of time. That’s why I think there should be more classes during the day. It’s really hard to feel satisfied even when I hear that jovial jingle after third period.”
John: “What do you like about salad? Please answer in as few words as possible.”
Walton: “Ignoring it!”
John: “What do you like the most about the Gilman room?”
Walton: “I really like the fireplace. That fireplace—I don’t think you're going to find many fireplaces better than that one on campus. It’s one of the all-time greats, at least at Gilman.”
John: “What do you like the least about the Gilman room?”
Walton: “It’s got to be the stench. It’s abhorrent. You walk in there and get blasted. I don’t even know what the smell is, but it’s egregious how bad it smells in there. It’s truly terrible. Sometimes it’s hard for me to stand.”
John: “What is your favorite thing about Baltimore?”
Walton: “It’s got to be the beach days at the inner harbor. Sometimes I even go for a little swim in the inner harbor. Also, The Real Thing in Towson. That’s a really good cheesesteak joint.”
John: “What is the first thing you’d do after you got off a plane in London, and why?”
Walton: “Probably just hop right back on. Maybe bring someone with me to come back and see a dentist. I definitely wouldn’t stay there for long.”
