Hello, Mr. Hopkins
This fall, Gilman welcomes a new math teacher, George Hopkins ‘88. After graduating from Gilman in 1988, Mr. Hopkins attended Franklin and Marshall for undergraduate schooling and Long Island University for graduate school. He went on to get an MBA in International Business from Long Island University and an MSEd in Leadership in Mathematics Education from Bank Street College.
Mr. Hopkins became a teacher due to his incredible experience with the Gilman faculty as a student here. He has since had over three decades of experience as both a teacher and an administrator in independent and international schools. An educator all over the world, Mr. Hopkins has served as the Head of Student Affairs at Qatar Leadership Academy and worked as the Dean of Students at the Amman Baccalaureate School in Jordan.
On top of being an experienced teacher, Mr. Hopkins has many accolades as a coach. He has spent his time coaching both football and lacrosse (including being the head coach for the University of Mississippi’s club lacrosse team) at the high school and collegiate levels, earning awards for both sports.
He is very excited to circle back to Baltimore after many years of teaching away from home. Mr. Hopkins remarked, “My wife and I are thrilled to be back in Baltimore. Along with our 20-month-old baby girl, we have been enjoying Charm City and everything it has to offer, especially the waterfront walking.”
The News looks forward to all of the experience and excitement Mr. Hopkins will surely bring to Gilman!
