Greetings, Ms. Grabarczyk
Gilman’s Upper School is excited to welcome new Penn Fellow Madeline Grabarczyk, who will be teaching honors Latin II. A lifelong Latin student, Ms. Grabarczyk studied the language throughout her high school and college, recently earning her degree in classics along with an additional major in English Literature from Johns Hopkins University.
“Latin is my favorite language, ancient or modern, to study and share with others,” she stated. “There are so many opportunities within the study of Latin for exploration of the ancient world and the discovery of resonances in our time.” Ms. Grabarczyk wants to “show [her students] how exhilarating a 'dead' language can be.”
Outside the classroom, Ms. Grabarczyk is an avid reader, often found with a work of classic world fiction or a poetry collection in hand. She also enjoys international films, plays guitar and violin, and loves spending time outdoors hiking, climbing, and gardening. This past summer, she added fishing and sailing to her list of hobbies, while continuing her passion for cooking and baking.
When asked what she is most looking forward to at Gilman, she didn’t hesitate: “Meeting and getting to know my students and all the students at Gilman, as well as my fellow teachers and staff. Each time I've visited Gilman, I've been astounded at the warmth, intelligence, and good spirit that pervades the Gilman community as a whole; I am so excited to get to know everyone who contributes to this atmosphere more personally.”
Her summer adventures took her to seven states – from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, to the rugged trails of Monhegan Island in Maine – as well as quality time with friends and family in Baltimore.
We at the News are extremely excited to welcome Ms. Grabarczyk and all that she has to offer to campus, and we hope that Gilman continues to impress!
