Take Care, Mrs. Temple!
On July 19, 2000, Tammy Temple began her thriving career at Gilman, one that would play an integral role in all Lower School affairs. Over the next twenty-five years, she assumed the post of administrative assistant to the head of the Lower School. It’s safe to say that, without her oversight, operations in the Lower School would have been significantly more challenging. Now that her time with us is over, Mrs. Temple looks forward to enjoying a fun and relaxing retirement.
In Mrs. Temple’s first year, she worked in the tech services department of the Upper School. After that year, she found her fit and pivoted to her current position in the Lower School, which she has kept for over two decades. Her role in the Lower School cannot be understated; her tasks included creating the calendar for the upcoming school year, reserving buses for field trips, and occasionally helping with dismissal duty.
During her tenure at our school, Mrs. Temple has deeply cherished working with the faculty and students. She feels that working at Gilman has been incredibly rewarding and personally enriching. Mrs. Temple stated, “The smartest decision I ever made in my life was coming to work here.”
Interestingly, her favorite part of the school was something relatively unrelated to her main job—singing. As she remarked, “One of the things that I really like about Gilman is that I'm a semi-professional singer. I've been doing that…way before I came to Gilman, and it’s been pretty cool that I could pull that part of my life into my job here.” On several occasions, she used her talent to perform with and for the students. “I've sung every year for Christmas…in the lobby… I've sung for convocations…It's just fun to be able to use my love for music and have that be part of my job,” she continued.
As her time with us draws to a close, Mrs. Temple has been reflecting on her experience and planning her time ahead. While there are many things she is sad to leave behind, she will miss her relationships above all. Mrs. Temple stated, “I've made a lot of friends with the teachers and the staff here, and I will miss seeing them every day.” Now, ready to embrace this new chapter of her life, she will move to Florida to be close to one of her sisters. Mrs. Temple has made a lasting impact on this school, and the entire Gilman community will truly miss her. We all wish her the best of luck in this next chapter of her life!
