A Wonderful Welcome for Mr. Wright

This year, Gilman welcomes Mr. Nazeé Wright as the new Upper School Counselor. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Mr. Wright attended Buffalo State University, where he received a bachelor's degree in journalism, minoring in leadership and urban civic education. Deciding to pursue higher education, he went on to Canisius University, receiving his master's degree in school counseling. Before coming to Gilman, Mr. Wright spent five years at High Point High School in Prince George's County Public School System as the department chair of the school counseling department.

Mr. Wright decided to become a counselor after realizing how much he enjoyed working with students to develop their professional interests and skills. His counseling style is fluid and holistic, as he strives to identify each student's needs. He believes this method will “help students connect to their overall purpose in life.”

Mr. Wright was immediately drawn to Gilman, remarking, “In high school, I received a lot of resources and support to become the educated man that I am today. I would like to pay it forward to the intelligent boys of Gilman.” Besides his responsibilities as a counselor, he looks forward to coaching our baseball team.

Outside of work, Mr. Wright spends time giving back to the community as a member of the Christian organization Alpha Nu Omega, Inc. Then, in his free time, Mr. Wright enjoys playing sports, such as baseball, football, volleyball, and bowling. Moreover, he also loves trying new things, whether that’s experiencing new restaurants or traveling to different countries.

I hope you will join The News in welcoming Mr. Wright to the Gilman community and wishing him a successful first year!
