For the January 1st Issue, The News hosted its second short-answer contest. Upper School students were given the opportunity to respond to the prompt: “Who would win in a fight: Frosty or the Abominable Snowman?” in 250 words. In a fierce competition, all contestants put their best foot forward. Enjoy reading all three pieces below. Upon the release of the issue, The News will send a poll to the student body, and the contestant who receives the most votes will be awarded a gift card courtesy of the paper.
James Hobelmann ‘26:
Frosty or the Abominable Snowman, they ask. For me, this is an easy answer. Most would be quick to say the Abominable Snowman for his large stature and powerful movement. But me, I believe Frosty would take this one. Frosty has an underrated skill set and is very smart with his attacks. He would tire out the mentally inferior Abominable Snowman and strike when the time is right. Not to mention his jolly songs. He would sing and dance to distract the enemy. Frosty also knows how to use his pipe. He would smoke out the abominable snowman like a flash grenade and take him by surprise. Frosty is very quick. He would run circles around his enemy and take him out when he gets tired. For all of these reasons, Frosty would take down the Abominable Snowman with ease.
JoJo Murrary ‘28:
You wake up from your trip to the North Pole, and the first thing you see when you step outside is two enormous snow specimens brawling to the death. It turns out that Frosty the Snowman was doing his thing, playing with kids and putting a smile on everyone's face, when the Abominable Snowman came in and started stealing kids' hats. Frosty, who is scared to lose his hat because it brought him to life, stands up for everyone, saying he will save the day. The Abominable Snowman, a 6'7 furry beast, coming from a rough background of training in the Himalayas, was born for this fight. He approaches by landing the first punch and quickly finds out that he is significantly stronger than a soft snowman made out of snow that only knows how to play with kids. Frosty's left abdomen crumbles…but wait, it regenerates? Abominable freezes up, thinking, “How can I possibly beat a snowman who regenerates?” Whilst zoned out, Frosty takes his chance and lays a 1-2 combo straight to the gut. Abominable flies back and takes this time to strategize, although he can't do much thinking, considering he was almost knocked out. He wonders what Frosty's Achilles heel could be, knowing this is the only way he has a chance. Frosty likes his odds and wants to make sure this monster is put away for good, so he gets on Abominable while he's down. In the middle of this beating, something sparks Abominable’s mind. The hat. He remembers Frosty's background and how the magical hat he is wearing brought him to life. He swiftly snags it and runs away. Frosty is furious but fades away as his soul leaves him, and his snow melts quickly. ABOMINABLE WINS in 7.
Jax Winstead ‘27:
In order to decide whether Frosty or the Abominable Snowman would win in a fight, you must consider their nature and backgrounds. Frosty comes from a couple balls of snow made by some children who placed a magical hat on his head. In the movies, he is nothing more than a jolly snow friend. He doesn’t have a fighter's spirit inside of him. On the other hand, the Abominable Snowman is a strong and violent force of nature not to be reckoned with. In the film Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, the Abominable Snowman terrorizes Rudolph, Hermey The Elf, and even kidnaps Rudolph’s family. In my opinion, because of his natural violence and aggression, Abominable Snowman would likely end the legacy of Frosty. He would live up to his name and take down Frosty, showing he truly is abominable.
Toby Rosenband ‘26:
Abominable Snowman in Round 1 by way of KO.
Keating Hoffman ‘27:
In a battle to the death between Frosty the Snowman and the Abominable Snowman, if the contest is only a hand-to-hand bout, no powers, the Abominable Snowman would destroy Frosty. Frosty is a big, fat ball of snow compared to a large, muscular snow creature. In the film Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer, the Abominable Snowman is a menacing villain until his teeth are knocked out and he becomes friendly. Unless Frosty is able to knock out the Abominable Snowman's teeth, this fight is going to be over very quickly. If Frosty could use his powers, however, the outcome could be far different. Frosty would be able to come back to life if he has the magical hat, so assuming this brawl is in a snowy climate, Frosty has a chance of coming back alive. Frosty’s greatest and only chance of winning would be from his powers. Using his regenerative ability along with his ultra-fast belly slide, Frosty could hypothetically slowly chip away at the Abominable Snowman. However, it does not matter because the Abominable Snowman would crush Frosty over and over again. Frosty’s only chance of winning would be to keep regenerating until the Abominable Snowman dies out, which is quite a cowardly way to win a fight.
Jute Taylor ‘26:
The Abominable Snowman would win due to his immense height advantage (being 8 feet tall compared to Frosty the Snowman’s 6 feet). Also, the fact that all the Abominable Snowman would have to do to knock Frosty out would be to knock off his magic hat. Also, Frosty the Snowman is too soft and would have no chance against the fierce abominable snowman. Frosty is baby food. Abominable in 4.
