Sailing Team Forgets They Exist
As Mason Coates ‘27 walked through the hallway donning his $399 Helly Hansen sailing jacket, sophomore Jojo Murray ‘28 asked a dangerous question. “What is that spiffy jacket for?,” he queried, to which Mason froze in his tracks. After looking perplexed and murmuring under his breath. “Yeah, what is this frigging thing actually for,” he dashed down the terrace hallway and bumped into Mr. Coles, who promptly told him off. His mind raced, and after several minutes staring at the only water-related thing he could see (the water fountain), he found himself utterly perplexed.
That afternoon, when Ryan Michael ‘26 was driving to Essex for sailing practice, his mind suddenly blanked as well. While listening to obscure European rock bands, he forgot why he was traveling to a random public park next to a weapons-testing facility. When he arrived at the sailing center and saw the boats and unstudious Calvert Hall scholars, he exclaimed, “S-s-sailing? We have a sailing team?”
The next day, he went straight to the team’s faculty advisor, Mr. Shattuck, with these new findings, to which he responded, “Sailing? I forgot about that a long time ago.”
